It'd been a few days since Bucky took her out. Violet was surprised at how much she was starting to like him. Maybe he was good for her. Even through her busy schedule and trying to take care of the little ones. Klaus had started his scholar program and everything had seemed to be going fine. She didn't know why she expected them to object. But Sunny and Klaus seemed to have talked about this at some point.

Their sister was a woman now. Someone was bound to notice. Bucky had.

Not that it was entirely easy to get that close to Violet, but showing him the ruins of her childhood home started to break away her walls. Dinners were always nice when he could make it. She'd hold his hand under the table and try not to catch him looking at her. She'd dip her head down and pick at the carbonara with a tiny but all knowing smile before she'd raise her eyes to meet his. They'd play this game a few times during the course of the meal.

Sunny and Beatrice would insist he stay for reading. Sometimes it was Klaus reading, sometimes Violet. It was usually something philosophical. Violet would put the girls to bed and then see Bucky out. It would end the same. She'd be pressed to him with soft kisses.

She liked it. It was the tiniest bit of normalcy in her abnormal life.

It took two weeks to get her to clear her afternoons and evenings enough to schedule a date with him. This time she made an effort at her appearance. She took an older dress and made alterations to it. She trimmed it in. It was still simple, black, but it didn't make her look like she was swimming in it. Her hair was down with a pin tucking the left side of her hair back. She checked the clock. Two minutes to eight.

Klaus was just smiling.

Violet rolled her eyes. "Oh, it'll be your turn some day." She replied.

"I've got college." He said back before fixing his glasses.

"Right you do." She smirked. Not that it wasn't possible, but it was good he was focused. It was good for all of this if something came of this. But she wouldn't let herself worry about that tonight. No. Tonight was her and Bucky at some diner. And she couldn't help the smile that slowly spread.

Bucky rang the doorbell at 8 sharp. He made sure he was on time, because he was pretty sure she liked punctuality. Steve had also made him wear his best clothes for this. Since he was taking her out on a proper date and all. Even if it was just to a diner he frequented.

She stood from the makeshift couch and gave Klaus a small smile before moving to the door. Smiling up at him, Violet grinned. "Hello, Bucky."

"Hello, Violet. Ready to go?" He looked her up and down. "You look really pretty tonight." He means that sincerely. He's sure that it's one of her old dresses that's been sewed up and hemmed, but...when you didn't have a lot, you make do.

She smiles and nods before bundling her coat tighter to her. "Thank you. You look good, too." She smiled and moved to close the door behind her. "So you know where we're going?"

"Yeah. The diner, remember? They have great food there." He waves at Klaus right before Violet closes the door and gives him a thumbs up he hopes Violet didn't see. "And they know me, which is even better. The waitress sometimes gives me a discount."

She turned back and moved to follow him with a nod. "I remember. I just wanted to know." Things had a way of changing quickly. "Sounds good to me. I haven't had food that wasn't home cooked in... awhile."

"We don't have a working stove right now, so..." They either eat stuff that doesn't have to be cooked or go out to eat.

"I can fix that. I told you." Violet replied looking at him. She could help, and she wanted to. "I do fix things for a living."

"I have no way to repay you. So no. Not until I get the money." He was pretty firm on that. Her time was money. If she was going to fix something of theirs, they were going to pay her.

She levelled him a look. "You're... more than a friend. And you're paying for my dinner tonight. It probably won't even take long." She could be stubborn. She wasn't going to take no.

"Well, I say that I have to pay you." He's going to keep arguing about this, Violet. Maybe they should drop it.

"I could just show up one day." He's going to have to change the subject or distract her. She doesn't like the idea of someone without if she could help.

"You don't know where my apartment is." She didn't, either. At least, Bucky hoped she didn't. "Oh, look, there's the diner!" Thank god. It was like trying to argue with Steve.

"I'm quite resourceful, James Buchanan Barnes." She punctuated her point with his name. A name was an invaluable thing to have. However Violet was sidetracked enough at the sight of the diner. It really had been awhile since she'd been out to eat.

"Looks nice." She said with a smile as they approached the door.

"They have great food too." He opened the door for her. "My usual booth is in the back." And of course it's open. Bucky sometimes thinks they keep it open just for him because he's in here so much.

She entered the diner and moved through to the back. "What do you usually get?" She asked him, waiting for Bucky to pick out the booth.

"Ah, whatever is the soup of the day, and a sandwich. They have the best deli sandwiches here." Bucky finds the booth and slides into easily. He is indeed a simple man, Violet. He does not do fancy.

Violet moves to sit next to him and brushes some hair back. "Sounds good." She said sitting back. Violet wouldn't consider herself a fancy person. She just grew up with a varied palette.

"Here." He turned to her and gently pulled her hair back, so that is falls straight down her back. "Sometimes I think I should get you another ribbon that you can wear." He understands that her other ribbon is just for when she's thinking and working.

She just looks back up at him with a smile. "I know. I usually only where it up to think though." There was a half shrug before the waitress appears with a menu for Violet. She gave Bucky a friendly smile before taking their drink orders.

He wraps an arm around her shoulders, not even bothering to disguise it as anything else. "So. How have you been?" He saw her a few days ago, but he's making sure that nothing's happened of the crazy murderer sort.

She leaned into him slightly and nodded. "Alright. Nothing new to report. Working a lot." She shrugged. Nothing of the murderous sort has happened in a long time. She would keep it that way.

"Well, at least that's good. I hope you aren't working too hard, though." Bucky didn't want her to overwork herself.

She wouldn't admit that with him coming over she had to work more to get more food. She would never admit that. "It's alright. I'm fine." She replied before their drinks were set down.

This time though, the waitress tried flirting with Bucky, stating he hadn't come around in awhile.

He flirted back a bit, to get them a discount. "Of course not, doll. I've been too busy with my new gal." He squeezes Violet's shoulders tight.
